Terms of Use

Last updated August 8, 2026. These terms describe use of the current MMIPS public-awareness service. They do not provide legal advice.

Purpose

MMIPS is a moderated public-awareness, search, sharing, mapping, and family-support platform for missing and murdered Indigenous person public profiles. MMIPS is not law enforcement, an emergency service, a tip line, or an official missing-person reporting system.

No emergency or official reporting

If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 or the appropriate emergency number. Submitting information to MMIPS does not file a police report, create a NamUs record, create an NCIC entry, or notify a government agency unless MMIPS separately and expressly confirms that it did so.

Submissions and authorization

By submitting information, you represent that you are authorized to submit it, that the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and that you have permission to share uploaded photographs or documents. MMIPS may edit, delay, reject, hide, or remove submissions for safety, privacy, accuracy, consent, or legal reasons. Submission does not guarantee publication.

Prohibited content

Do not submit suspect accusations, rumors, exact private addresses, shelter or family locations, graphic material, threats, harassment, confidential investigative details, embedded image metadata intended to expose a private location, or information that could endanger a person, family, witness, or investigation.

Public map

The MMIPS map is optional and informational. Public map points are intended to be approximate public-awareness areas only and must not be treated as exact incident, residence, recovery, shelter, family, witness, or investigative locations.

Email alerts

Alert subscriptions require confirmation. Users may unsubscribe using the provided unsubscribe process. MMIPS may suppress or stop alert delivery when required for safety, abuse prevention, deliverability, or service operation.

Corrections and removals

Families and authorized representatives may request corrections, hiding, or removal. MMIPS reviews requests and may temporarily hide public content while a request or safety issue is being evaluated.

Availability and third-party services

MMIPS depends on hosting, database/storage, email, anti-abuse, and map providers. Service availability may be interrupted or limited. An optional visual feature may fail while the accessible public information path remains available.

No legal advice

MMIPS does not provide legal advice. Information on the site is for public awareness, sharing, and family-support purposes only.
